The celebration of Valentine’s Day in Ecuador

Updated: Sep 6, 2023

The Day of Love and Friendship or Valentine’s Day is celebrated in Ecuador every February 14, and it is a day in which lovers celebrate their union by giving letters, chocolates, stuffed animals, dinner parties and friends give each other chocolates, flowers, serenades, etc. and above all reminds us of love in all its facets through the feelings of brotherhood, affection, fidelity to our neighbor.

Love has been throughout the ages the main reason for joy, enthusiasm and energy in the face of everyday life, and when one speaks of celebrating love, it is a whole meaning of such a short but meaningful word, where friends, boyfriends or husbands gather to celebrate and remember that they have each other.

This celebration was born in the third century when Emperor Claudius II ruled in Rome, who decided to prohibit marriages for young people, because in his opinion single people without family were better soldiers. Valentin who was a priest at the time hearing such a ban challenged the Emperor by celebrating marriages in secret. However, Emperor Claudius II found out and ordered the priest to be imprisoned and martyred and subsequently executed on February 14, 270 A.D

It is because of this fact and in its name that several centuries later began the popular celebration in most countries of the world.

A simple detail already makes our day is for this reason we encourage you to invite a friend to a coffee, give a candy or try to send a message to your loved ones sincerely wishing them a ! Happy Day of Love and Friendship.
