Today the global number of digital nomads with a formal job is over 10.2 million. Digital nomads are people who have a stable job, whether they are hired directly by a company, working as a freelancer for several companies, or as entrepreneurs, and yet they travel and work from anywhere. They are not tied to a fixed job, as their activities, which normally belong to the digital world, can run smoothly from a laptop and with an internet connection from anywhere in the world.
It is no secret that the Covid-19 pandemic accelerated the process of using technology and opened the doors to harnessing it to work from anywhere in the world. In addition, the change of mentality in the new generations, the desire to know the world and not wanting to continue being tied to a chair in a fixed job, has made more and more people who want to belong to the world of digital nomadism. It is therefore important that countries around the world catch up with this trend and adjust their migration policies, as has been the case in Mexico, Spain, Portugal and Indonesia, which have recognized that generating measures for the attraction of digital nomads is a good reactivator of the economy.
On the part of Latin America we can say that it is not lagging behind. Countries like Argentina, Costa Rica and Panama already have or are working on migration or profit strategies to attract foreigners who invest in the countries, or who want to work as digital nomads. This translates into reduced requirements and costs for obtaining migratory processes, or even the generation of visas for digital nomads that would apply for people who must reside in a country for longer than the tourist visa allows.
